A crouton is a piece of sautéed or rebaked bread, often cubed. Croutons we use to add texture and flavour to salads—notably the Caesar salad—as an accompaniment to soups and stews, or eaten as a snack food
Slice a few pieces of bread and cut them into cubes.
Place the bread cubes on a tray in one layer.
Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius and place the tray to cook for about 10 minutes until the bread croutons start to get brown.
Serve them fresh with soup, sauce or salad. I make bread crumbs from homemade bread.
